Where Fashion & Ramblings Collide

I visited a mythical place today. It's a place I have heard hush whispers about. Avie's from days of old have often told stories of the dreaded Corn Field. A place where the Lindens once sent unruly avie's to wander through endless corn rows to think about the deeds they have done. I wasn't sent here to be punished. Actually, I visited on my own free will. The Lindens long ago closed down this sim only reopening for Halloween. They have now reopened once again to celebrate the 10th Birthday!
The cornfield is eerie, desolate and yet beautiful at the same time. Open your map, type in The Corn Field and these co ordinates 128/128/2.

I visited World's End Garden today and, wow! The sim is just beautiful! I couldn't resist snapping a pic!
Wander around and try to find the shop. When you do, join the group for $0L. Go upstairs and you'll find a wall with free gifts to grab! I was going to try some on and take picvs, but wouldn't you know..sim restart!

Hi There! I'm Ariel Mendle and it is an absolute pleasure to be able to do this. I see Gis and Lily have been busy posting. I'm not sure how often I will be able to contribute, but, I hope I can offer some fun things for you.
Today I thought I'd start of with a sort of meme. It gives me the opportunity to tell you a little bit about me...so, here we go!

  1. First SL Friend: Tonks Akina. I actually met her through Facebook during a very difficult time, and she introduced me to SL. She got me sort of addicted. She introduced me to CharlieO Planer who sort of took me under his wing and helped me navigate SL. I think he felt sorry for me because he was responsible for my inventory filling up so quickly! He gave me a place to live. I will always be thankfull for his generosity.
  2. First SL Kiss: Hmmmmm, I would have to say that it was Johnni Twine.
  3. First SLex time/place/partner: Well obviously it would have to be....Oh come on, you think I'm going to say?? A lady never tells!
  4. First SL Partner/Girlfriend/Boyfriend/Wife/Husband: My first Boyfriend was Johnni Twine. It didn't last long. My first partner/husband was Gray O'Connell. He was such a gentleman and we had a lot of fun dancing. There were a couple other dates after that until Premium Payne came along. We partnered but that wasn't meant to be either. Then I met Timon, and sparks flew! We had been rubbing our feet on the carpets.
  5. First SL Job: Hostess at a club called Blue Moon owned by Linri Jewell and Solonoid Torok. Drama happened and they went seperate ways. Linri branched on her own and opened Linri's Palace. I began hosting for her and was quickly promoted to a Manager. Sadly, Linri's is no longer around, but what a time it was!
  6. First SL Creation: Oh this is easy, and embarrasing. It had to have been a box! Actually, I tried my hand at making a gift box, failed miserabley.
  7. First Encounter with a Linden: I briefly met Torley Linden. Actually, he more flew over my head. Does this count???
  8. First Encounter with a SLebrity: I first met Louis Volare through hanging out with the now closed Nantucket sim. He would perform there while the mermaids would swim. Sometimes after his shows he would throw a party with Hathead Rickenbacker. OMG, we danced on a giant umbrella! It was so much fun! I actually hung out with Maximillion Kleene for a while too. I met him through CharlieO Planer who owned a sim that was to be used for concerts. It never opened, but Max visited often, and we'd sit on Charlie's yacht chatting up a storm.
  9. First SL Sim you fell in love with: This one is easy. I don't think there are many people who haven't heard about Tempura. Wow! SL Botanical Gardens is lovely too, they change

I've been reading a few blogs lately and found that most bloggers are doing meme's or blog challenges. I have no idea what a meme is, to be honest, I thought it was slang for a mammogram ( seriously ladies, go get one, it could save your life). One blog in particular that I watch is Strawberry Singhs. I am so in awe of what she does. Her photographs are immaculate and I could only wish and hope I could do what she does.
I saw that she had posted a recent blog challenge for creating a movie poster, and I decided to give it a shot. It's not perfect, heck, it's not even great by any means, but I had fun doing it with Drach.
This is my take on the Sandra Bullock Rom/Com, While You Were Sleeping. Notice my totally lame SL twist on it???
So, there is my first go at a blog challenge and or meme. Maybe I'll do more soon!

It's always sad news when you hear that a store that seems to have been around for a kagillion years is closing. I recently found out that three of those stores that I have come to love will soon be shutting their doors forever.

Picture
Kouse's Sanctum  Recently sent a notice that the store will be closing.
Kouse Singh creates beautifully detailed gowns that suit well for all fantasy and medieval needs. You want to feel like a princess? These gowns sure do the trick. Featured here are just 3 of the many gowns that are now on sale for only 75 Lindens

You will also find select jewelry in the shop for the same low price.
The other two closings I mentioned are both well known pose shops.
Adorkeable Poses and Glitterati Poses are both closing their doors. I am unsure if there are plans to remain in the marketplace, but just incase, head down to the shops and grab what you can before they are gone forever.

Sometimes through Facebook I update on how I am feeling in Real Life. I consider everyone to be family and friends even though most I have never met face to face. Regardless, we care about each other, so I feel it necessary to keep them informed about how I am.
Although I do this, I never release extremely personal information through my posts. This post is no exception, however, it is a topic that is extremely important to me given the recent storms in Oklahoma.
June 9th 2010 was a typical summer day for me, A friend from England was visiting. my kids were being, well, kids, and all was ok in our little corner of the world. Night came, and we all went to bed.
I knew it had been raining this night, I could hear it pinging off of my window. Brief flashes of lightening shone through and the distant rumbling of thunder could be heard. I started to doze off again thinking it must be pretty late or really bloody early. That's when I started to get the feeling that something wasn't right. I didn't hear anything, but in my gut I knew. Something was telling me to look out my window. I pulled it back to see the tree across lit up by the street light. It was swaying back and forth slowly. I squinted still half asleep to watch the tree suddenly and violently begin to whip back and forth. I jumped out of bed and ran into the hall where my mother also woken by the wind burst was standing. We both flung my kids door open and grabbed them to head into the basement.
By this time, the wind had already settled down and we all went back to bed. After all, we've had high winds before, and since the house was still standing and we were tired why not sleep?? I happened to look at the clock before shutting my door. For crying out loud, it's 3 AM.
As I was slowly starting to drift off to sleep again, there was a loud banging on our door. We opened to find a neighbour dressed in pajama's and slippers standing there with a flashlight. Squinting again I noticed it seemed unusually dark. The neighbour asked if we were all ok, and sort of laughing I replied "of course, why wouldn't we be?". The neighbour looked at me confused, "Don't you know?" they asked. This is when my focus decided to kick in. Again I realised that it seemed unusually dark. I was looking for that street lamp that lit up the whomping willow and discovered it wasn't there! I stepped out and looked around. Our street only lit by people wandering with flashlights. Oh My God! Trees were littering the road. No, not branches, but fully mature trees! This is when I realised we had been hit by a tornado.

Picture
When dawn broke, I quickly got dressed to asses the damage. It was worse than I thought. The beautiful park was destroyed. All the trees that once stood were now either snapped or completely uprooted. Powerlines were flung across the road as if a giant had used them for jump ropes.

Picture
Everywhere I walked all I saw was destruction. It wasn't just by my home. I walked for blocks to see nothing but trees and powerlines and lamp posts scattered across the roads, houses and cars. This car used to be my friends mothers. Now it was nothing more than a tin can.

Picture
This guy was lucky! He managed to stop just before the tree fell infront of him.
I was later told they think the storm was an F2, although storm chasers that came through felt that the damage more indicated an F3. Either way, it in no way compares to the destruction in Oklahama. I now have a better understanding as to how they feel. For years to come there will be fear. Every time the rain falls, the lightening strikes, the thunder rolls and the wind picks up they will be afraid. This is what we all face in the wake of destruction.

Rock Me Amadeus has an AWESOME thing goin' on right now. Go to the shop and you'll find a TON of boxes sitting on the table for 50L each. Inside are oodles of goodies for you to sort through and fill your invy on a budget. I'm wearing the blue Maddie Dress from one of the boxes. I paired it with the Gold Moscou jewelry set from Alienbear. Here's a better look.

Azul has always been one of my favourite places to shop. I love the details on their gowns, and the group gifts are always top quality! Thank you to a Facebook friend for the heads up that Azul released their June group gift! This lacey white dress is adorable, and I love the fact that it is none mesh. Mesh never seems to fit me, plus, I like the way most none mesh gowns flow.
I decided to pair this dress with a black pearl jewelry set from Alienbear. You will see this better in the image below.
